Degree Show 2010
Camberwell College of Arts – University of the Arts London (UAL)
Kühne Jorgensen’s art eduction started out at BTEC Foundation Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts in 1999. She then started her first year of the BA (Hons) Fine Art course at Central Saint Martins. After interrupting her studies for a move abroad to Greece, she resumed her BA again at Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2007. After a year she transferred to the dedicated Painting course at Camberwell College and graduated in 2010.
The ideas for this final set of paintings were triggered by the idea of collective identities and the tension between the collective and the individual. The need for ‘sameness’ and simultaneously the urge to break away and be free. The subject of glamorous cheerleaders versus the theme of the American Road Movie.
Both paintings are 1 day paintings, meaning they have been painted in one day (7 hours non-stop). Of course many small scale sketches in pencil, ink, acrylic and in oil have preceded to steady the hand and resolve visual language issues, like the translations into paint of reflections, sunlight, glass, smoke or water.
